2017
Dear Parents,
Welcome back after the mid-term I hope everyone enjoyed the mid-term break.
This month our topics are “People who help us” and “Road safety”. We will be discussing people who help us within the school e.g. Principal, Secretary, Cooks, Cleaners, Teachers, Lollipop lady etc and people who help us in the environment e.g. Doctors, Nurses, Firemen, Shopkeepers, Postmen etc, we will be hoping to organise a visit from some of these professionals to talk to the children about what they do. If you would be interested in talking to the group about your job please let me know. We will be transforming our imaginative play area into a hospital area to offer language development opportunities through various role play situations.
We will also be developing road safety awareness. Please help us by pointing out traffic lights, road signs and zebra crossings. Our colour for this month is red. To help your child recognise colours simple sorting activities are very beneficial.
Towards the end of this month you will hear your child talking about Claus bear. This is a bear that falls from Santa’s sleigh and lands in the Nursery garden. The Nursery class have the task of looking after him until Christmas Eve. Each child will be giving the opportunity to take Claus home for one night along with his scrap book, which we invite you to write in or take photographs of what Claus gets up to when he visits your house. The children really love this and it causes great excitement in the group. We start this in November to ensure every child gets an opportunity to take Claus home.
The Nursery annual Christmas trip will take place on Wednesday 13th of December. We are going to see Santa in Santa’s Cottage, Hilltown. The cost of the trip including the bus will be £15 per child. On this day all children can dress up in their Christmas gear. We are aware that some children get very apprehensive about visiting Santa, if you feel this trip will be very overwhelming for your child please let us know. Nursery will not be on that day as all staff will be required to go on the trip. All money for the trip should be paid before the 8th of December.
This year we are hosting our annual Nativity performance on the 14th of December. We are hoping that the performance will begin at 5pm, all children should home to school as normal on this day then parents bring them back in dressed in costume. We will advise you shortly the role your child will be playing in the nativity, if possible could you provide the costume. Many of the stores do the costumes at a reasonable cost. We have some costumes in the Nursery which can be used also.
Congratulations to the Nursery staff who recently completed their training in basic Makaton. This is a means of communication using signs to support the spoken word.
This month we are starting our “Happy smiles Programme”. Toothbrush and paste will be provided for all. Toothbrushing will be an integral supervised part of our daily snack routine. If you do not want your child to participate in the scheme please let me know.
Just a reminder that £10 snack money should be paid at the start of each month. Should your child miss a day of school it is school policy that a note explaining the absence is submitted on the day of their return, we ask you to adhere to this practise.
We would also like to remind you to send a coat with your child as the weather is getting colder and we try to get outside as much as possible. Please ensure you have a change of clothes stored in school for your child and that their uniform is clearly labelled.
Regards,
Paula Byrne
