We marked International Woman’s Day on Friday with a visit to each of our KS2 classes by a local woman. P7 had a very special visitor, Mr Mc Conville’s Granny, Margaret, who has played and continues to play, an important role in her local GAA Club, Crossmaglen.
Una Walsh visited P6, with a teacup and saucer part of a tea set given to her by her mother. She told P6 about growing up in South Armagh and how this tea cup and saucer were precious to her as her Mother had used it with pride to mark special visitors and occasions.
P5/6 had a video conference with Ciara McAuley, a female engineer, who was awarded the Queen’s University Engineering Student of the Year for her role in the upgrade of the A6 road between the Castledawson roundabout and Magherafelt. During our conference Miss Hearty and Ciara discovered they play camogie on opposing teams for Colleges Camogie Tournaments.
P5 were visited by Enya, who is studying Business with coding at College. She told the children all about her education, from St Pauls to University in London, and about her success in ballet. Enya gave great advice to always follow your dreams and ambitions and to travel as much as possible.
A big thank you to all our visitors for giving of their time to inspire our young boys and girls with their life stories. We would like to take this opportunity to wish all our girls, their Mums and Grandmothers and extended family members, as well as our staff, a very Happy International Woman’s Day.
