Learning about Mullaghbawn with Una Walsh

Primary 5 have been learning about their village, their county and country in World Around Us. We were lucky enough to have Una Walsh pay us a visit today to impart her invaluable knowledge to the children.

We went on a walk around Mullaghbawn to look at different landmarks that make the village what it is. The children learnt so much and thankfully the rain stayed away. We discussed how there are different townlands and how many of the boys & girls live in the townland of Shanroe. The children discovered that Mullaghbawn used to have a shirt factory, that Slieve Gullion is 59 million years old and how the farmers used to keep flax wet for 10 days with no machinery. We all got to ring the bell in the graveyard at the end too. It was very heavy!

We would like to thank Una again for her time spent. P5 thoroughly enjoyed this afternoon!
