April newsletter

2015

Dear Parents,

Welcome back after the break I hope you had an enjoyable Easter. It is hard to believe that we are in our last term of Nursery.

Our topics for this month are “Food” and “Keeping healthy”. We will be covering healthy eating, food origins and food from around the world. We will be discussing the importance of regular exercise and good personal hygiene. We are transforming our imaginative play area into a cooking area, were the children will get experience of cutting different foods to explore their taste, texture and smell. Friday the 24th – will be “Fruity Friday”, we are having a fruit sampling day and we ask you to send in a piece of fruit with your child to share, we are hoping to offer a wide variety of flavours and textures in order to encourage the children to eat more fruit.   We would ask you not to send in kiwi fruit due to allergy concerns.   Our colour for the month is “yellow.”

We have been discussing four shapes – circle, square, triangle and rectangle. Please encourage your child to recognise these shapes in the environment.

This week we welcome Francis Murphy, art specialist and owner of “Over the Bridge” Arts group to take an “Exploratory Clay Session” with the class. This sounds like great fun – messy fun !

Please find enclosed a consent form from “SmallTalk NI” –this group come very highly recommended and are coming into the Nursery on the 20th of April to take a whole group session on the development and promotion of good listening, conversation and speech skills. In order for your child to participate we need the consent form returned as soon as possible. If you have any queries on this session please do not hesitate to ask.

If the Nursery class are outside playing when you come to collect your child please stay at the gate and your child will be brought over to you. This is in keeping with our Health and Safety policy. Also in the interests of safety if Nursery equipment is left outside during home time we ask that you do not let your child play with it.

Congratulations to the Murchan family on the birth of their son and to the Mackin family on the birth of their baby daughter, we wish them both every happiness and good health.

The school will be closed on 4th of May to coincide with the May Bank holiday.

Thank you for your continued support and co-operation.

 Regards,

 P.Byrne
