Let’s celebrate World Book Day 2021

Dear families,

Next week Thursday 4th of March we will be joining in the celebrations for World Book Day 2021.  As a school we endeavour to foster a love for reading all year round by exposing each child to a variety of books, genres and reading audiences.  Statistics about regarding the importance of reading to your child in the early years and encouraging independent reading when the child has acquired the skills to do so.

” Reading for pleasure is the single biggest indicator of a child’s future success, more than family circumstances, parents’ educational backgrounds or incomes. ”

Organisation for Economic Co-operation and development.

We intend to make next week all about BOOKS 📙📕📗📘.  We have planned a week of fun-filled activities to celebrate our love of books.  All children, families, parents, grandparents and more are welcome to join in.  The aim is to get talking about books and to have some much needed fun exploring them.  Books offer us the perfect opportunity for escapism, so for the times that we are in, let’s use books to cheer us all up. 😀
The Program for the week is as follows.

Monday: Potato Challenge – Decorate a spud as your favourite reading bud.

Tuesday: Capture the Quirky.  We want pictures of your novelty reading spaces.

Wednesday : Come Dine with me – Prepare a menu to host a meal for your favourite book character.

Thursday: we present, THE MASKED READER.  Please send any photos of your kids in fancy dress for World Book Day.

Friday: Design time:  design a costume or new book cover for your favourite character or book,

All activities open to all ages.  Also check out the web site of Scholastic and David Walliams for some additional activities.

Check out the following link for an explanation of all the above activities.  Your teacher will keep you updated through your class online platform.
