Brátog Bríde

Una Walsh came into Primary 1 & Primary 2 today to tell the children all about a tradition associated with St. Brigid’s Day.  Today is the eve of the feast day and people traditionally leave a cloth or scarf outside to be blessed by the saint as she passes tonight. This tradition is known as Brátog Bríde in Irish Folklore.  This garment can then be used as a cure for sore throats and headaches.

We went outside and hung a cloth on a bush in front of the school.  Una brought a cloth for each child to take home and put outside to be blessed by St Brigid as she passes by tonight.

Thanks so much Una for coming in and passing on this tradition to all the children in P1 and P2.
