Brátog Bríde

Una Walsh came into Primary 1 today to tell the children all about a tradition associated with St. Brigid’s Day.  Today is the eve of the feast day and people traditionally leave a cloth or scarf outside to be blessed by the saint as she passes.  This tradition is known as Brátog Bríde in Irish Folklore.  This garment can then be used as a cure for sore throats and headaches.

We went outside and hung the scarves on a bush in front of the school.  Tonight we are waiting for St. Brigid to pass by and bless our scarves.

Thanks so much Una for coming in and passing on this tradition to P1.
